Know all men by these presents that I John Teackle
Senr. of Accomack county in Virginia being deeply impressed with the fullest Sensibility
of the equal rights of Human Nature to the Enjoyment of Personal Liberty have Emancipated,
Discharge and set free and by these presents do emancipate liberate and discharge
my several Negroe Slaves To wit, Shadrack, Joseph, Abel, Ignatius, Robert, Isaac,
Derry, Abram, Rachel, Adam, Morris, Charles, Jacob, Levina, her children, Betty Lean
and George, Silvia and her Child Ephraim, Sarah & Nanny and for as much as the Introduction
of the above mentioned Negroes into Society makes a second name Necessary for the
better Assertaining their Indentity from other Negroes which maybe or have been manumitted
I do hereby annex the name of Planter as a Second name to Each of their Respective
first names --- And further I do for myself and my heirs Ratify Release Grand & confirm
unto the afore mentioned several Negroes and their Heirs forever all & Singularly
my right Claim or Intent of in and unto any Property or demand which I have in him
them or any of them Reserving only to myself and my heirs the Right --- of holding
such as are under lawful age during the term of such Non age In testemony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 24th September 1787 John Teackle
At
a Court held in Accomack County September 27th 1787 this Deed of Manumission was
Acnowledged by the said John Teackle as his Act & Deed and ordered to be Recorded Littleton
