At a Superior Court of Law held for the County of Accomack on the first Monday in October the 2nd day of sd month in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight Hundred & nine

A Grand Jury for the body of the County were impannelled and sworn to wit; William Parramore Junr (foreman) Parker Barnes, Henry Parker, William S. Cutler, William P. Custis, Severn Kellam , Arthur Boggs, John Arlington , William Mears (of Wm) Elijah Grinnalds , Charles Bagwell , George P. Bagwell, John T. Bundick, Charles Rew, William Stran , Erastus Poulson, Robert Kellam, Bagwell Wharton and Joseph Conquest who being charged retired and afterwards returned into Court with an Indictment against Littleton Hammonds "True Bill" also the following presentments to wit; a Presentment against Rachel Bonwell "for an Assault and Battery committed on the body of Mary Bishop wife of Jacob Bishop on the 30th day of May 1809 near the barn of Jacob Bishop in the County of Accomack also the presentment against Mary Bonwell for an Assault and Battery committed on the body of Mary Bishop wife of Jacob Bishop on the 30th day of May 1809 near the barn of Jacob Bishop in the County of Accomack Also a Presentment against William Lecatte (alias Wm Lecato) for an Assault & Battery committed on the body of William Folio on the 9th day of September 1809 at Pungoteague Tavern in the County of Accomack also a Prest against Perry Leatherbury for an Assault and Battery committed on the body of John Bell at the house of said Jno Bell in the County of Accomack on the 1st of September 1809 and a presentment against William Lecatte alias William Lecato for threatening that he would at the muzzle of a pistol that night or next morning, or any other time have satisfaction and that he would be revenged of Thomas Evans Judge of the General Court for having as a Judge of the Superior Court of Law for the County of Accomack having committed to jail & putting him in irons the said William Lecatte alias Lecato the said Challenge threatening against the said Judge being committed by the said Lecatte alias Lecato on the 8th day of September 1809 at Margaret Academy in the County of Accomack." and having nothing further to present and no further business were discharged.
On 2 October 1809 the Grand Jury presented indictments against Rachel Bonwell for phyically assaulting Mary Bishop on the 30 May 1809 near her husband's barn. On 7 May 1810 she plead not guilty. On 10 Ocotber 1810 a Jury found her not guilty of the charges and Mary and Jacob were ordered to pay her court charges. - Gail Walczyk
On 2 October 1809 the Grand Jury also presented an indictment against William Lecatte (alias Lecato) for assaulting William Folio at Pungoteague Tavern. He was also indicted for threatening to shoot Thomas Evans, the Judge of the General Court 8 September 1809, at Margaret's Academy in revenge for having him put in jail in irons. On 9 May 1810 the Court notes that William Lecatte (alias Lecato) is deceased. - Gail Walczyk
On 2 October 1809 the Grand Jury also presented an indictment against Perry Leatherbury for phyically assaulting John Bell. The case was first heard on 2 October 1810, but the jury coulde not agree on the verdict and the jury was dismissed. On 7 October 1810 the case was again heard and this time the jury found him guilty and ordered him to pay one cent. - Gail Walczyk
