SOME DESCENDANTS OF RICHARD KELLAM INCLUDING SACKER KELLAM

FIRST GENERATION

1. RICHARD KELLAM, was born circa 1618 (Mihalyka, Jean & Houston William R. M., Colonial Residents:60). Richard died before 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34).  He married Sarah Ansley circa 1647 in Accomacke/Northampton. Sarah was born circa 1629. On 28 July 1649 Richard Kellam was granted a patent for 300 acres of land for transporting 6 persons among who was Sarah Ansley (Mackey Vol. 3:341).

Certificate this day was granted Richard Kellam for three hundred acres of land due unto him by the right underwritten. Sarah Ansley, Ann Corbert, Mary Kinge, Jno. Thomson, Henry Worsley, Isaac Emersley.

In Richard Kellam's will, Sarah was named by Richard to handle his estate on 1 June1703 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34). See will below.

On 6 May 1647 in Accomacke/Northampton Richard received one neck of land from Tabutiabum the King of the Nandua Indians (Mackey Vol. 3:346). The text reads:

To all whom these presents shall come. Know you that I Tabutiabum great king of Undue do with the advice and consent of my chief men sell and deliver and have by these presents sold and delivered unto Richard Kellam for and in consideration of full satisfaction by me received one necke of land lying on the North side of Occahannocke Creek called Quinduit warranting unto the said Richard his heirs, Extrs, or assignes peaceable enjoyment of the said land for ever without disturbance of me the said Tabutiabum my heirs or successors: Witness my hand & Seale this 6th day of May 1647. - Tapatiabu, his mark - Signed, Sealed in the presence of Thomas Johnson, Manatuke, his mark, Richard Workman - Recorded 2 August 1649.

On 28 July 1649 Richard Kellam was granted a patent for 300 acres of land (Mackey Vol. 3:341).

In 1661 in Accomacke/Northampton Richard Kellam bought land from John Evans and his wife Joane (Whitelaw:763). He owed money to John Dye's estate on 2 October 1666 in Accomack Co., VA (McKey, Vol 1:169). On 9 January an appraisal of his estate was recorded. An abstract reads

Richard Hill, George Truett, Fran. Benstone and Robert Hutchinson appraised the estate of John Die, dec'd. Among other things the estate included: 15 cows (two of which were at Muddy Creek,) 43 pigs, a musket, 10 poets and pans six small to 10 gallons, hoes and axes, 7 small pewter dished and 6 pewter porringers (bowls,) a candlestick, a fetherbed and accessories, a dutch chest, various tubs, and a milk bucket. the following persons owed debts to the estate: Roger Turnon, William Abram, Richard Kellum, and Edward Sacker. - Recorded 9 January 1666/67 by Robert Hutchinson.

In 1687 in Accomack Co., VA Richard Kellam gave his son Edward Kellam three hundred acres of land (Whitelaw:763). On 17 July 1697 in Accomack Co., VA Richard Kellam presented a deed for land to his son Edward Kellam (Whitelaw:763, McKey Vol 7:255). Note: Whitelaw states

"sold" . . . Total of 400 acres, this land extended southward from Otterdam Branch across Burssels Branch and another Branch. Both of these entered Otterdam a little above the mouth. Bussel's later became Taylor's Branch and is generally known as Lewis' Branch.

Richard made a will on 1 June1703 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34). An abstract of his will reads:

To 2 sons Edward & William Kellam 5 shillings each. To daughter Sarah Kellam now Curle. Daughter Ann Kellam now Wallis. Daughter Rachel Lingo 5 shillings each. To daughter Rose Kellam now Garretson, 60 acres on Burrells Branch. To godson William Onely, son of Clement Onely. To son William 50 acres adjoining his own land on Beaver Dame Branch. To son Richard 5 shillings. Wife Sarah extr. Witt: Stephen Waltham, William Sill.

Richard Kellam and Sarah Ansley had the following children:

4 iii. Rachel Kellam was born circa 1655. She married William Lingo circa 1673. William was born circa 1648.

SECOND GENERATION

2 ROSE KELLAM (Richard) was born circa 1651. She married Richard Garrison circa 1669. Richard was born circa 1645 (Mihalyka:40).  In William Garrison's will on 13 October 1708 in Accomack Co., VA, Rose was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:41). The text reads:

To mother Rose Garrison. Wife Elizabeth resid legatee & extr. Witt: Edward Kellam, Francis Roberts, John Milby.

Rose Kellam and Richard Garrison had the following child:

9 i. William Garrison was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1682. He married Elizabeth circa 1707. Her maiden name is unknonw. Elizabeth, was born circa 1689. In William Garrison's will, Elizabeth, was named by William to handle his estate on 13 October 1708 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated (Nottingham Wills:41). An abstract of William's will reads:

To mother Rose Garrison. Wife Elizabeth resid legatee & extr. Witt: Edward Kellam, Francis Roberts, John Milby.

In William Garrison's will on 13 October 1708 in Accomack Co., VA, Elizabeth, was named as an heir.

5. EDWARD KELLAM (Richard) was born circa 1658. Edward died before 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).  He married Sarah Bell circa 1683. Sarah was born circa 1665. In Edward Kellam's will, Sarah was named by Edward to handle his estate on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108). An abstract the will of Edward Kellam reads:

To son John Kellam 130 acres where he now lives as it is patented in my own name, also the plantantion where I now live with all the land between a Branch called Bussells Branch & the line of Arthur Roberts land containing 150 acres. To son Arthur Kellam all my land on the other side of Bussells Branch containing 150 acres. To son Richard Kellam 1 shilling. To son Edward Kellam. To daughter Mary Groton 1 shilling. To grandson Benjamin Stewart 1 shilling. To son Edward Kellam. To wife Sarah balance of Estate during her widowhood then to my 4 children John Kellam, Arthur Kellam, Scarburgh Addison, & Rachel Mears. Wife Sarah & son John Extrs. Witt: Littleton Wyatt, William Wyatt, Robert Coleburn.

Whitelaw states (Whitelaw:763):

Edward gave his daughter Mary and her husband William Groten 90 acres of land. It was northwest of the Sea Side Road. He left 150 acres to his son John. It was on the south side of Brussel's Branch. Edward left his son Arthur 150 acres on the northside of Brussel's Branch.

In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Sarah was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills, p 108).

In 1690 Edward Kellam was on the List of Tithables for in Accomack Co., VA with 3 tithables (McKey Vol 7:182). In 1691 Edward Kellam was on the List of Tithables for in Accomack Co., VA with 3 titables (McKey Vol 8:339). Edward was mentioned in Court on 17 March 1691/92 in Accomack Co., VA (McKey Vol 8:78). The text reads:

Persons were appointed to notify the public in their areas and collect the lists of tithables for the current year . . . . Mr. William Burton in the former precincts of Capt. Wm Custis from and including John Coles to and including Edward Kellam's on the Sea Side and also Matchepungo Neck

In 1692 Edward Kellam was on the List of Tithables for in Accomack Co., VA with 3 tithables (McKey Vol 9:353). Edward was metntioned in Court on 8 April 1696 in Accomack Co., VA (McKey Vol 9:207). The text reads:

Citizens were ordered to bring their lists of tithables to the following individuals . . . Capt. William Custis from Edward Kellam's on the Sea Side up to Gargathia uncluding Capt. Jenifer's . . .

On 17 July 1697 in Accomack Co., VA Richard Kellam presented a deed for land to his son Edward Kellam (Whitelaw:763, McKey Vol 9:255).  In Richard Kellam's will on 1 June1703 in Accomack Co., VA, Edward was named as an heir. It was probated 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34)

On 7 February 1720/21 Edward gave his daughter and her spouse, William Groton land in Accomack Co., VA (McKey Vol 14:61).

On this date Edward Kellam presented and acknowledged his deed of gift for land he made to his son and daughter William and Mary Groten.

Edward Kellam and Sarah Bell had the following children:

10 i. Mary Kellam was born circa 1684. She married William Groton circa 1702. William was born circa 1685. On 7 February 1720/21 in Accomack Co., VA "

On this date Edward Kellam presented and acknowledged his deed of gift for land he mad to his son and daughter William and Mary Groten.

12 iii. John Kellam was born circa 1689. In Edward Kellam's will, John was named by Edward to handle his estate on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Will:108).

In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, John was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).   Whitelaw states:

. . . He [Edward] left 150 acres to his son John. It was on the south side of Brussel's Branch.

13 iv. Arthur Kellam was born circa 1693. In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Arthur was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills, p 108).

Whitelaw states (Whitelaw:763):

. . . Edward left his son Arthur 150 acres on the northside of Brussel's Branch."

14 v. Scarburgh Kellam was born circa 1695. In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Scarburgh was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).

15 vi. Rachel Kellam was born circa 1698. In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Rachel was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).

16 vii. Richard Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1702. In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Richard was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).

17 viii. Edward Kellam was born circa 1705. In Edward Kellam 's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Edward was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).

6. WILLIAM KELLAM (Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1660. William died before 5 October 1714. He married twice. He married his first wife circa 1688. The name of his first wife is known. in Accomack Co., VA. She was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1670.

He married 2nd Ann, the widow Hyslop, wife of George Hyslop [Hazslop] circa 1712 in Accomack Co., VA. Ann was born circa 1673. On 5 March 1711/12 Ann Kellam and William Hazlop sworn to their deposition concerning a lease of a planlation from James Davis to his son William Davis. (McKey Vol 11:64.).

George Hyslop was born circa 1666. He was married twice. The name of his frist wife is unknown.  On 3 November 1708 George Hyslop wrote his will. It was proved 1 February 1708. An abstract of the will of George Hyslop reads:

HAZLOP, GEORGE - 3 Nov. 1708 - 1 Feb. 1708/9 - To sons William & George Hazlop plantation containing 300 acres on Hunting Creek. Son Charles. Wife Ann residual legatee & Exec. Witt: Stephen Walthan, Francis Wainhouse. Jr.

Ann and George Hyslop had the following children:

In Richard Kellam's will on 1 June1703 in Accomack Co., VA, William was named as an heir. It was probated 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34).

William made a will on 21 August 1714 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 5 October 1714 (Nottingham Wills:50). An abstract of his will reads:

KELLAM, WILLIAM - 21 Aug. 1714 - 5 Oct. 1714 - To 4 sons Nathaniel, William, John & Thomas Kellam plantation where 1 now live containing 450 acres. Dau Sarah Kellam. Wife Ann. Daughter Tabitha Kellam. Son Nash Kellam. Son in law Charles Hazlop. Daughter in law Elizabeth Hazlup. Wife Exec. Witt: Francis Roberts, John Meers, Arthur Laylor.

NOTE: Charles and Elizabeth Hazlop are his stepchildren.

8. RICHARD KELLAM (Richard) was born circa 1664. Richard died before 6 April 1731.  He married Frances West circa 1690 in Accomack Co., VA. Frances was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1672. Frances was the daughter of John West and Matilda Scarburgh (Nottingham Wills:34).

In Richard Kellam's will on 1 June1703 in Accomack Co., VA, Richard was named as an heir. It was probated 6 October 1703 (Nottingham Wills:34).

Richard made a will on 8 February 1730/31 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 6 April 1731. An abstract of his will reads:

KELLAM, RICHARD - 8 Feb. 1730/31 - 6 Apr. 1731 - To daughter Catherine 200 acres adjcent my son William's land & for want of heirs to my son William. To daughter Sarah Sill 100 acres at the head of Sarah's Neck adjcent John Sill's land. To son Jonathan Kellam. To son Richard.  Bal. of estate to wife Frances during her widow, then to be divided between  4 of my children, Sarah Sill, William, Jonathan & Catherine.  Wife Exec. Witt: Littleton Scarburgh Major, Edward Kellam, Bryant Coneley."

Richard Kellam and Frances West had the following children:

27 iii. Sarum Kellam was born circa 1701 (34). Sarum died before 30 May 1744. On 30 May 1744 letters of Administration on the estate of Sarum Kellam were granted to Richard Kellam (Nottingham Wills:115).

28 iv. Jonathan Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1705 (Nottingham Wills:34)

29 v. Catherine Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1708. (34)

30 vi. Sarah Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1710. (34). She married a Mr. Curle.

 

THIRD GENERATION

11. SARAH KELLAM (Edward, Richard) was born circa 1687. She married Andrew Stewart circa 1715 in Accomack Co., VA (Nottingham Wills:108), Andrew was born circa 1690. Andrew died before 31 December 1745. Andrew made a will on 26 October 1745 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 31 December 1745 (Nottingham Wills:146). An abstract of his will reads:

STEWART, ANDREWS - 26 Oct. 1745 - 31 Dec. 1745 - To Wife Sarah Stewart 1/3 of my land in Virginia & Maryland during her life. To son Andrew Stewart land & plantation at Watchapreag & land & marsh on Cedar Island. To son George Stewart 300 acres in Worcester County, Maryland, near Swansegut.  To daughter Sabra Smith.  To daughter Lishey Stewart.  To daughter Elizabeth Stewart. To daughter Ziller. To daughter Agnes. To son John Stewart. To son Levin Stewart. To daughter Sarah James. To son Benjamin Stewart. Robert Andrews, John Rowles & Littleton Scarburgh Major to appraise & divide estate. Wife Sarah & son Andrew Exrs. Witt: Littleton Scarburgh Major, Robert Watson, Arthur Laylor. In order of prob: Benjamin Stewart eldest son & heir at law to the testator.

Sarah Kellam and Andrew Stewart had the following children:

34 iv. Andrew Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1722. (146) He married Mary Scarburgh on 2 October 1745? in Accomack Co., VA (Quarterly:353). The date in the Bible record is torn. Mary was born in Accomack Co., VA on 28 February 1725 (Quarterly:352). Mary was the daughter of Mitchell Scarburgh and Dorothy Wainhouse. Mary died on 15 September 1759 (Quarterly:353).

In Andrew Stewart's will on 26 October 1745 in Accomack Co., VA, Andrew was named as an heir. It was probated 31 December 1745 (Nottingham Wills*).

35 v. Elisha Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1723.

36 vi. Elizabeth Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1725.

 

25. RICHARD KELLAM (Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1691. He married circa 1717 in Accomack Co., VA. The name of his wife is unknown. She was born circa 1699. Richard died without a will or an administration.

Richard Kellam had the following children:

FOURTH GENERATION

33. BENJAMIN STEWART (Sarah Kellam, Edward, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1720. Benjamin died before 27 May 1766.  He married Matilda Scarburgh circa 1747 in Accomack Co., VA (Virginia Families, William & Mary Quarterly). Matilda was born in Accomack Co., VA on 29 February 1728 (Virginia Families, William & Mary Quarterly, p 352). Matilda was the daughter of Mitchell Scarburgh and Dorothy Wainhouse. She married Solomon Kellam circa 1766 in Accomack Co., VA. Matilda died before 30 October 1792.

Matilda made a will on 8 August 1792 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 30 October 1792 (Nottingham Wills:397). An abstract of her will reads:

KELLAM, MATILDA - 8 Aug. 1792 - 30 Oct. 1792 - To son Andrew Stewart. To daughter Elizabeth. To daughter Sarah. To daughter Nancy. To son Scarburgh. To daughter Susanna. To son Charles Kellam. To son James. Sons Charles & James residual legatees.  Son Charles Kellam Exr. Witt: Keziah Kellam, Abel Kellam, John Walker."

In Edward Kellam's will on 18 October 1736 in Accomack Co., VA, Benjamin was named as an heir. It was probated 2 August 1737 (Nottingham Wills:108).

In Andrew Stewart's will on 26 October 1745 in Accomack Co., VA, Benjamin was named as an heir. It was probated 31 December 1745 (Nottingham Wills:146).

Benjamin made a will on 18 November 1765 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 27 May 1766 (Nottingham Wills:226). An abstract of his will reads:

STUART, BENJAMIN - 18 Nov. 1765 - 27 May 1766 - To son Andrew. Wife Matilda. Daughter Margaret Stuart. Daughter Lizebethy Stuart. Daughter Sarah. Son Scarburgh Stuart. Daughter Nancy. Unborn child. Wife & children Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, Scarburgh, Nancy & unborn child residual legatees. Thomas Hall & William Joyne Exrs. Witt: Thomas Delanaway, Elizabeth Larance."

Benjamin Stewart and Matilda Scarburgh had the following children:

41 i. Andrew Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1749 (226).

42 ii. Margaret Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1754 (226).

43 iii. Elizabeth Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1756 (226).

44 iv. Sarah Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1759 (226).

45 v. Scarburgh Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1761(226). In her uncle Mitchell Scarburgh's will on 19 February 1764 in Accomack Co., VA, Scarburgh was named as an heir. It was probated 27 March 1764 (Nottingham Wills:216).

46 vi. Nancy Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1764 (Nottingham 226).

47 vii. Susanna Stewart was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1766 (226).

37. JOHN KELLAM (Richard, Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1718. John died before 27 April 1773. He married Bridget circa 1743 in Accomack Co., VA. Her maiden name is unknown. Bridget, was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1725. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Bridget, was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (Nottingham Wills:270).

On 26 August 1766 Thomas Kellam orphan's account was recorded by his guardian Solomon Kellam (Walczyk Orphans 1741-1770:90). His father is unknown. On 26 August 1766 Thomas's orphan account was recorded for the year 1765. Among other things it was debited with 2L. 2s 4p for schooling and credited by 10L 13s 6p for the rent of his plantation.

On 28 August 1770 Thomas Kellam orphan's account was recorded by his guardian John Kellam (133). Solomon Kellam died the previous year and on this date John Kellam as Thomas' guardian submitted his orphan's account and it was recorded. The 1769 account in 1770 was the last one posted (133).

John made a will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 27 April 1773 (Nottingham Wills:270). An Abstract of his will reads:

KELLAM, JOHN - 20 Nov. 1772 - 27 Apr. 1773 - To wife Bridget whole estate during her widow to bring up my younger children, daughters Peggy, Betty & Susey Kellam & son George Kellam. To grandchildren Peggy Budd, Edward Budd & Comfort Budd a bond of their father's, Thomas Budd for 17 £ & interest. Edward Ker & wife Bridget Exrs, Witt: Hillary Green, Solomon Kellam, William "Buddle" Hughes. - p. 74 In order of probate: Littleton Dennis app. guardian to George Kellam, heir at law to the testator."

John Kellam and Bridget had the following children:

49 ii. Margaret Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1755. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Margaret was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

50 iii. Elizabeth Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1757. In John Kellam will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Elizabeth was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

51 iv. George Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1759. In John Kellam will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, George was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

52 v. Susey Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1760. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Susey was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

38. SOLOMON KELLAM (Richard, Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1720. Solomon died after 15 August 1768. He married twice. The surname of first wife is unknown They were married circa 1743 in Accomack Co., VA. Keziah was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1723.

As his second wife he married Matilda Scarburgh widow of Benjamin Stewart circa 1766 in Accomack Co., VA. Matilda was born in Accomack Co., VA on 29 February 1728 (Quarterly:352). Matilda was the daughter of Mitchell Scarburgh and Dorothy Wainhouse She had 1st married Benjamin Stewart circa 1747? in Accomack Co. VA, (date torn in Bible.) (Quarterly:353). Matilda died before 30 October 1792.

Matilda made a will on 8 August 1792 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 30 October 1792 (Nottingham Wills:397).

On 28 August 1764 Thomas Kellam orphan's account was recorded by his guardian Solomon Kellam. The name of this Thomas' father is unknown. (Walczyk, Orphans Accounts 1741 - 1770:90). On 28 August 1764 Thomas Kellam's Orphan's account was recorded for the year 1763.(Walczyk, Orphans Accounts 1741 - 1770:67). After the year 1768 Thomas's orphan's accounts were submitted by John Kellam. (Walczyk, Orphans Accounts 1741 - 1770:90).

On 1 August 1767 Solomon Kellam, their guardian charged Sarah Stewart's account with 3L 18 shillings 9 pence for board and schooling. He also charged Scarburgh Stewart, Susy Stewart and Nancy Stewart's accounts were charged 3L (Walczyk, Orphans Accounts 1741 - 1770:121).

Solomon Kellam wrote his will on 15 August 1768. It was probated 27 May 1777 (Nottingham Wills:304). An abstract of his will reads:

KELLAM, SOLOMON - 15 Aug. 1768 - 27 May 1777 - Wife Matilda Kellam sole legatee & Exec. Witt: Littleton Scarburgh Major, Leven Green - Proved by Andrew Stewart, both witnesses being dead,"

NOTE: In the search for the first wife of Solomon and the mother of Sacker Kellam both the Parker and the Custis family looked at. Sacker Parker had a daughter Keziah who was born circa 1723, and the sons of Henry Custis the son of William wife Joan, the widow of Edward Sacker. Henry had children: Henry, Revel, and Joseph were these were looked at. Henry's son Henry died before 6 March 1732 leaving a will written on 11 October 1729 (Nottingham Wills:29). An abstract of his will reads:

CUSTIS, HENRY - 11 Oct. 1729 - 6 Mar. 1732 - Wife Ann.  Wife to have use of my dwelling plantation during her widow Eldest son to have liberty to seat himself on that part I bought of William Selby when he comes to age or marries. To sons Henry & Robinson Custis land where I now live containing 1333 acres. To sons Henry, Robinson & Thomas all my land & marshes on Jengoteague Island. To son Thomas 600 acres at Massongoe, also 600 acres near Deep Creek. To daughters Ann, Tabitha & Frances.  Children to be at age at 18. Should my wife be with child, said child to have an equal share of my estate with my other children. Wife Ann & son Henry Exrs. To daughter Leah Custis.  Daughter Margaret Scarburgh, wife of Henry Scarburgh, Jr. Wife & children residual legatees.  Witt: John Scarburgh, Richard Cooper, Sarah Custis.  Codicil: 10 Dec. 1732 - To wife Ann my schooner called Ann for her better support to maintain & educate my children. To daughter Margaret, wife of Henry Scarburgh, Jr. a child's share of my cattle & horses. Witt: William Wood, Samuel Simson, Thomas Simson." His unmarried daughters were Ann, Tabitha and Frances.

Revel Custis died intestate. (Nottingham Wills:115)

CUSTIS, REVEL - Letters of administration on his Estate were granted to Edward Revell - Hancock Nickless security 29 May 1744.

Joseph Custis died intestate (Nottingham Wills:133).

CUSTIS, JOSEPH - Letters of Administration on his estate were granted to Mary Custis - Richard Rogers security - 27 Jan. 1746/7.

Out of Henry's sons Joseph was too young to have a daughter marry Solomon Kellam. Revel Custis was almost too young. That leaves the three daughters of Henry, son of Henry as a possibility.

Solomon Kellam and his first wife had the following children:

55 iii. Charles Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1768 (Nottingham Wills:397). Charles died before 31 December 1798. On 8 August 1792, in his mother Matilda's will Charles was named as heir. In Sacker Kellam's will, Charles was named by Sacker to handle his estate on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA (Nottingham:427).

On 31 December 1798 Letters of Administration on his estate were granted to James Poulson (Nottingham Wills:455).

48. FEMALE KELLAM (John, Richard, Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1745. She married Thomas Budd circa 1767 in Accomack Co., VA. Thomas was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1742. John Kellam mentions Thomas Budd in his will 27 April 1773 in Accomack Co., VA (Nottingham Wills:270).

Female Kellam and Thomas Budd had the following children:

56 i. Margaret Budd was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1768. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Margaret was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270)

57 ii. Edward Budd was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1770. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Edward was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

58 iii. Comfort Budd was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1772. In John Kellam's will on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA, Comfort was named as an heir. It was probated 27 April 1773 (270).

53. SACKER KELLAM (Solomon, Richard, Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1745. Sacker died before 29 June 1795 (Nottingham Wills:427). And abstract of his will reads

To wife Charity Kellam whole estate during her widowhood. To sons Smith and Revel Kellam my lands adjoining the lands of Robert Nock and James Rodgers. To son Custis Kellam. To daughter Nancy Kellam. To daughter Rachel Kellam. To daughter Nancy Kellam. To daughter Betsey Kellam. To daughter Sarah Kellam. to daughter Leah Kellam. To daughter Peggy Kellam. Wife Charity Kellam and daughters Betsy, Sarah, Leah and Peggy Kellam Resid. Legatees. Wife & George Taylor Extrs. - In order of probate - Charles Kellam qualified.

In 1767, Reuben Shield, wife Tabitha, left (part of White Marsh) to his son Nicholas. Soon after Nicolas with his wife Becky, sold small parcels to Littleton Wyatt, Jr. Sacker Kellam, Richard Rodgers, Edmund Read, and Robert Harris (Whitelaw:849).

In the 1780 Procession a question on where the boundary lines were was brought. The Text reads:

Inquisition to No 4 . . . by Virtue of the Order of Court hereto Annex'd I do hereby Certify that on the 7th day of August 1780 with a Jury of twelve good and Lawfull men of my County to witt: Geo: Garrison, Levi Nock, Willm Coulborn, John Parker, Zephiniah Bradford, Jacob Bradford, William Spiers, John Bradford, Zorobable Chandler, Benston Bradford, John Philips & Robt Coulborn who being Duly sworn & Charged I went upon the Lands in Dispute together with the Surveyor & the said Jury having seen the premisses and heard the Alligation & the Evidence as well on the part of the sd Nicholas Shield as the said Henry Heath having Processioned a Line between the said Parties beginning at a corner pine of Benjamin Nock, Henry Heath & Saccor Kellam; & thence running North 39 Degrees by a Line of Marked Trees 23 chains 60 Links to a red Oak the corner tree between Henry Heath, William Phillips & Richard Rodgers which line the Jury Assd upon their Oaths do say is the true Line between the Parties Afsd. In Testimony whereof a swell the sd Shff as the Jury have hereto put our hands & Seals the Day & Years above Written. - Henry Fletcher Shff - John Parker, John Bradford, Geo: Garrison, Zephinias Bradford, Zoro: Chandler, Levi Nock, Jacob Bradford, Benston Bradford, John Phillips, William Coulborn, Wm Spiers, Robt Coulborn. On 20 November 1783, in District No.4 the boundaries between . . . Nicholas Shield & John Turlington, orphan; Wm Phillips & Richd Rodgers; Wm Turlington & Wm Spiers, Richd Rodgers & Benjn Nock; Richd Rodgers & Saccor Kellam; Richd Rodgers & John Nock; Richd Rodgers & Nicholas Shield; Wm Coulborn & William Spiers, present were processioned. In 1791 the Boundaries were again processioned . . .Line between Sacker Kellam & Thomas Nock, Present Sacker Kellam & Thos Nock. Line between Sacker Kellam & Jas Rodgers orpn, Present Sacker Kellam & Smith Martain. (Walczyk Processioners:159.)

He married Charity Martin circa 1770. Charity was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1752. Charity was the daughter of Peter Martin and Margaret Martin. Charity died before 30 December 1816 (Nottingham Lans:124). In a suit for sale and division of the land of Sacker Kellam, Charity was mentioned as deceased.

In Margaret Martin's her mother's will on 2 September 1778 in Accomack Co., VA, Charity was named as an heir. It was probated on 30 March 1784 (Nottingham Wills:342). An abstract of her will reads:

To daughter Ritter Mason. To daughter Charity Kellam. To daughter Sarah Turlington. Son Smith Martin resid. legatee & extr. Witt: Littleton Lurton, Parker Savage

On 5 March 1798 in Accomack Co., VA,Revel Kellam was paid for the support of his mother (Walczyk Overseers:93) The text reads:

To Revel Kellam for mother 3.10.0."

On 3 January 1817 in Accomack Co., VA William S. Martin, John S. Walker, Isaac Coleburn and William Coleburn were granted letters of administration on the estate of Charity Martin (Miles Wills:301).

Sacker made a will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427). And abstract of his will reads:

To wife Charity Kellam whole estate during her widowhood. To sons Smith and Revel Kellam my lands adjoining the lands of Robert Nock and James Rodgers. To son Custis Kellam. To daughter Nancy Kellam. On 29 November 1820 in Accomack Co., VA a suit for the sale and division of the land of Sacker Kellam was recorded (Nottingham Land:124). The land cause reads:

That a certain Sacker Kellam late of this County was on the 24 February 1795 seized of a tract of land situate in the White Marsh in the county aforesaid containing 40 acres, and being so siezed on that day duly made and published his last will and testament in which he divised to his wife Charity Kellam the said tract of land during her life or widowhood, with remainder to his sons Smith and Revel Kellam, to be divided euqally between them, which said will was proved 29 June 1795; that the said Revel Kellam mentioned in said will departed this life intestate in the year 1817 leaving three children viz: your oratrixes Sarah and Nancy Kellam, infants, and a certain Revell Kellam; that the said Charity Kellam departed this life in the year 1819 &c. - 29 November 1820.

Sacker Kellam and Charity Martin had the following children:

59 i. Smith Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1771. He married Polly Trehearn on 6 October 1819 in Accomack Co., VA. (Turman:154). Polly was born circa 1800. In Sacker Kellam's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Smith was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

60 ii. Custis Kellam was born circa 1774. Custis died before 25 May 1812 (Miles & Miles, Wills 1800-1860, p 301). He married Elizabeth Smith on 7 September 1805 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman:151). Elizabeth was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1784. She married William W. Rodgers on 23 February 1813 in Accomack Co., VA (240). Elizabeth died before 7 March 1820.

On 10 December 1809 Custis and Elizabeth had Harriet Kellam in Accomack Co., VA (Mihalyka Graven:74). Custis made a will on 3 March 1812 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Miles Wills:301). An abstract of his will reads:

Wife Elizabeth Kellam Extr. To wife Elizabeth Kellam all my land lying below the neck road for 10 years. Sell the land and my Negro man Sampson to pay my debts. My wife cannot charge my daughter Harriet for 10 years. At 10 years 2/3 to daughter Harriet kellam and 1/3 to wife & at wife's death the whole to my daughter. Witt: Francis Boggs Jr., Stpehen Moore, John Moore, Charles Bradford and Ezekiel Smith.

Custis and Margaret's daughter Harriet married James Drummond on 24 November 1828 (Turman:87) as his first wife.

61 iii. Rachel Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1777. In Sacker Kellam's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Rachel was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

62 iv. Nancy Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1779. In Sacker Kellam's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Nancy was named as an heir. It was probated (427).

In William Belote's will on 12 October 1804 in Accomack Co., VA, Nancy was named as an heir. It was probated (Miles Wills:57.). An abstract of his will reads:

Custis Willis Extr. All my land & plantation to my son Charles Belote & my son George Belote, but if either dies before they arrive to lawful age then to his brothe. to bothe sons . . . To Nacy Kellam of Sacker . . . The remainder to my 2 sons & Jacob Edwards' children to have 1/3 part.. All the property I lent to Jacob Edmunds to his children. Witt: William Badger, Fanny Edwards & Patty Polk. Probate Francis Savage & Howson Mapp securities.

63 v. Betsey Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1781. In Sacker Kellam will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Betsey was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

64 vi. Revel Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1782. Revel died in 1817. He married Mary Ann Kellam on 6 June 1807 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman:153). The marriage record reads:

Revel Kellam to Mary Ann Kellam of Spencer 6 July 1707. Spencer Kellam security.

Mary was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1789. Mary was the daughter of Spencer Kellam. She married 2nd Kendall Lawrence on 15 May 1817 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman:161). The marriage records reads:

Kendall Lawrence widower, to Molly Kellam widow of Revell on 15 May 1817. William Lawrence security.

Circa 1808 Revel and Mary had Revel Kellam in Accomack Co., VA. Circa 1810 Revel and Mary had Sarah Kellam in Accomack Co., VA. Circa 1813 Revel and Mary had Nancy Kellam in Accomack Co., VA. Revel Kellam was the defendant in a court case on 29 November 1820 in Accomack Co., VA (Nottingham Land 124).

65 vii. Sarah Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1783. In Sacker Kellam's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Susah was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

66 viii. Leah Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1785. In Sacker Kellam of Solomon's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Leah was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

67 ix. Margaret Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1787. Margaret died before 30 December 1816 (Miles Wills::301). On this date the estate of Charity Kellam was ordered to be audited which included 1/7 of the estate of Peggy Kellam deceased. In Sacker Kellam's will on 24 February 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, Margaret was named as an heir. It was probated (Nottingham Wills:427).

54. SOLOMON KELLAM (Solomon, Richard, Richard, Richard) was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1749. Solomon died before 27 January 1795 (Nottingham:421). An Abstract of his will reads:

KELLUM, SOLOMON - 4 Nov. 1794 - 27 Jan. 1795 - To son in law John Be11 4 £ 10 s. that I lent him. To son John Kellam 4 £ 10 s. To daughter Molley Kellum 4 £ 10 s. To son George Kellum 5 £. 4 children Rosannah Bell, John, Molly & George Kellum residual legatees - Thomas Burton Exr. Witt: John Spiers, John Burton.

He married circa 1774 in Accomack Co., VA. The name of his wife is unknown.

He witnessed the will of John Kellam on 20 November 1772 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 27 April 1773 (Nottingham Wills:270).

Solomon Kellam had the following children:

68 i. John Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1775 (Nottingham:421). John died before 26 June 1797. John made a will on 13 March 1797 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 26 June 1797 (Nottingham Wills:447). An abstract of his will reads:

KELLAM, JOHN, son of Solomon - 13 Mar. 1797 - 26 June 1797 - To brother George Kellam & sister Mary Kellam whole estate George Taylor Exr. Witt: George Taylor, Robert Nock."

69 ii. Rosannah Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1777 (Nottingham:421). She married John Bell circa 1793 in Accomack Co., VA. John was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1768.

70 iii. Mary Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1780 (421).

71 iv. George Kellam was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1783 (421).
