Know all men by these presents that I Owen Darby
of the County of Accomack in consideration of the sum of Fourty pounds current money
of Virginia to me in had paid by Catharine Martin and Elizabeth Martin (Children
of John Martin) the receipt herewhereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained
sold and Delivered and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and delivery unto
the said Catharine Martin and Elizabeth Martin their heirs and Assigns forever a
Negro Woman Slave named Lucy until the said Catharine Martin & Elizabeth Martin their
heirs and assigned forever. And I the said Owen Darby do for myself my heirs Excr.
& Admons. covenant and agree to and with the said Catharine Martin and Elizabeth
Martin their heirs and Assigns that I will well and truly warrant the title of the
said Negroe Salve Lucy to them the said Catharine Martin and Elizabeth Martin their
heirs & assigns against the lawful claim of all and every person & persons whatever
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 1st day of January in
the Year Seventeen hundred and ninety Nine Owen Darby Witnesses
At a
Court held for Accomack County January 1st 1799 This Bill of Sale from Owen Darby
to Catharine & Elizabeth Martin was acknowledged by the said Owen as his Act & Deed
and ordered to be recorded Teste Litt Savage Clk Examd
