Know all men by these presents that we James Ashby & Matilda Ashby of Accomack County & State of Virginia Considering hereon from a State of Slavery the natural & proper right of the black people as well as white Have thought fit to manumit & Set free the following Slaves And do by these presents manumit, Set free & quit claim forever to those hereafter mentioned (namely) Peter Parris & Pleasant In testimony whereof we have hereunto Set our hands & Seals the thirteenth day of November One thousand Seven hundred & Ninty Six br> James Ashby Matilda Ashby
